Mark Waters

Having misspent much of my youth swimming I decided to give triathlon a bash after over a decade of keeping unfit back in 2007. From sprint to Olympic to middle and long distance I've learnt the hard way that it’s not all about the swim. I've been formally and otherwise taking groups for open water sessions for the last couple of years during the summer months and have happily seen people progress from 'I'm not going out there, it’s too deep' to Howth Island swims and the like. I've been lucky enough in the last year to coach groups of swimmers on Monday evenings in Belvedere. For those that can't make the club sessions I'm more than happy to pass on advice about how they might spend that sacred hour or so in the pool to get the most from it.

I've completed the Level 1 Swim Ireland teaching and coaching courses and the Triathlon Ireland Level 1 coaching course but see myself very much the novice coach in the club with a lot to learn from the other guys and the athletes in the club. I continue to swim on a regular basis for enjoyment, sanity and the occasional triathlon - as long the swim is in the open water ;)
